Sean Kerry, Ph.D

Sean Kerry obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Alberta, with a specialization in Counselling and Educational Psychology. His Masters’ Degree in Counselling Psychology was completed at McGill University and he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of British Columbia. Dr. Kerry is presently completing his registration requirements for submission to the College of Ontario Psychologists. His doctoral research and dissertation focused on the essential elements of the therapy process, and examined the impact of client expectations on the psychotherapy outcomes.

Sean's previous work experience includes individual, couples and family counseling. He previously worked for three years as a researcher within the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the BC Children's Hospital. Prior to his Masters degree, he worked as a vocational counselor with clients displaced from their employment due to injury or disability. He has also worked in community-based mental health clinics in Edmonton and Stony Plain, Alberta. Most recently, he completed a doctoral internship at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Education Clinic.

Sean provides psychological, vocational, and psycho-educational assessments for children, youth, and adults. Each assessment is specifically designed to assist referring individuals or agencies address their concerns. Psycho-educational assessments examine intellectual ability and academic fluency, attention and concentration, hand-eye coordination, planning ability, and recognize the response style of the individual being tested. Vocational assessments completed by Dr. Kerry examine ability and aptitude, but also explore vocational interests, values, and personality style.

Sean works with adults, adolescents, couples and families, and uses cognitive behavioural, solution-focused, and Ericksonian approaches to therapy. Sean works with issues such as marital and family therapy, depression, anxiety, anger management, parenting support, vocational counseling, and working with adults who have experienced assault or abuse.
