Jenny Sutherland M.S.W., R.S.W.
Jenny Sutherland obtained her Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto and completed an Honours undergraduate degree in Psychology at Brock University. She is a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and is a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
Jenny is an Associate clinician with Quinte Counselling Services Inc. Previously she worked for the Office of Child and Family Advocacy in Toronto; Family, Child and Youth Services in Muskoka; Family and Child Services of Niagara; and Payukotayno Child and Family Services in Moosonee. As a social worker she has provided a range of services for individuals and families, including advocacy, negotiation of services, assessment and counseling.
Jenny has a special interest in crisis, suicide and trauma. In addition to her formal education, she has received training in Critical Incident Stress Management. Jenny also has an interest in the social, academic and behavioral challenges facing children and youth who are in foster care. Being half Cree and having been raised in a Native community, Jenny is well informed about Native issues and the challenges facing these children and youth.
From a counselling perspective Jenny’s approach is cognitive behavioral and solution focused. She provides a warm and supportive environment that is educational in assisting clients to identify and understand their personal strengths and to develop positive coping skills.
