Referrals for mediation can be made personally by the client, by the client’s lawyer or by the Court.

During mediation the Family mediator will first meet separately with each of the divorcing parents to obtain information on the circumstances of the situation and to determine what each of the parties want from mediation.

The mediator will then continue to meet with the parties separately, and in some cases together, to develop a mutually agreeable settlement arrangement for the children, family finances, and family property.

After coming to a mutual agreement, each of the parties takes the agreement to their own lawyer to receive comments and advice from the lawyer. If the agreement remains acceptable to all parties then the lawyers will finalize the arrangements.
