Diane M. Riley, Ph.D.

Consultant & Psychotherapist

Diane has a PhD and Masters in Psychology from the University of Toronto and a B.A. (Hons.) in Psychology from the University of Sydney, Australia. She is an Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health, University of Toronto [status appointment].

Diane did her training in addictions and other counseling at the Addiction Research Foundation (now the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health). Diane has worked extensively in consulting, education, psychotherapy and volunteer capacities for over thirty years in Canada, Europe, Asia and Central Asia. Her consulting is in the areas of substance use policy and practice, change management, public health, and healthy communities; she also provides training in these areas. Diane has worked extensively with governments at the local, provincial, national and UN level and written many documents for these bodies. She uses a solution focused, cognitive behavioural approach to counseling and specializes in services for women and youth.

Diane has over thirty years of experience working with public and private organizations, governments and UN bodies to change ineffective policies and practices in the areas of public health, healthy communities (including LEED standards), civil society involvement, substance use, harm reduction, correctional issues, and HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis.
